Refresh the city- All about Recycling

In 2009, each citizen of the European Union (E.U.) produced an average of 510 kilograms of household waste. However, in the United States this figure was even higher, with every citizen producing 720 kilograms on average. Given the growing mountains of trash, many municipalities have to come up with solutions for how to deal with household waste.

However, it should not be restricted to municipalities only, it also comes down to every individual who can contribute to the society and make it a better place for our coming generation.

Recycling is one of the techniques to reuse the waste materials. It is good for the environment, since we are making new products from the old products which are of no use to us.

How many of you have really given a thought about recycling anything? We know the techniques or ways but either we don’t take it seriously or we just ignore it.
We can start recycling at home and there are millions of ways to do it. When you think of recycling you should really think about the whole idea; reduce, reuse and recycle.
These small innovative thoughts can really improve our environment and “Refresh the city”, and there are many people around us who are doing many things like this.
One of them is Mr Vijay Pal Goel (Age 50 years) who belongs to my city Chandigarh. He has defined a new definition of recycling.

Kala Sagar (Hindi word which means Ocean of Art) is his unique creation ( Government Museum) where world’s largest collection of art created purely from damaged, discarded or waste sanitary ware items is exhibited. He was a private sanitary contractor. In the year 1994, an idea struck his mind and He started collecting waste sanitary material and converted it into marvelous art pieces. He is an uneducated person. He also never learned art making from any school, college or from any teacher.

The distinctiveness of the art is that whole collection of art pieces are shaped and created only from sanitary waste item. The sanitary waste items means discarded and damaged sanitary products used in bathroom, kitchen and public health such as water storage tanks, pipes, tapes, fountains, chinaware etc.

The specialty of the art pieces is that it is not created using any of melting, molding, cementation, and carving techniques and this makes it different from all other kind of art forms of the world.
The art pieces are created by arranging and assembling the different sanitary waste pieces and giving it a desired shape. For instance: Airplanes, train, animal figures, telephones, human statues etc.

The main objective of the artist behind this unique art is to generate mass awareness for reuse of waste materials for environment protection, treatment of the specially abled children and established a tourist place for the special people such as mentally challenged people, visually impaired and physically handicapped.

Considering so many motivations are around me, I thought of reusing  the plastic bottles and that what my blog is all about which says: “INSPIRE, CREATE and SPARKLE”.
Now there are so many waste plastic bottles around us which we throw in the garbage considering they will be trashed but are they really being trashed? Well you know the answer.
There are millions of ways to reuse the plastic bottles. We settled on a plan of action to make paint brush holder, piggy bank and a decor item.
Creating these items is a literal child's play and it’s just a matter you need to bring your all creative ideas out .It is also a recreational pursuit. You can do this whoopee activity with your children and friends. You would need waste bottles, paint, brushes and a mind full of ideas.
This is the best way to prepare our coming generation for these sorts of activities and awareness about recycling.

It’s time to change; not just the way we do things but the way we think.
